unable to link laptop to TV screen

    Hi,

I wonder if anyone from the Kaos community can help me? I broke my laptop screen recently am now disparate to access some work I've saved on its' hard drive. Unfortunately, the crack is quite large and I can only see about 5% of the screen. The laptop is a 5yr old Toshiba so I got a VGA cable and inserted that into the back of a friends Toshiba flat screen in the hope that I could access the laptop and transfer all my work onto my external hard drive. There is a likely F button (which shows and computer next to a square monitor) which I've pressed after I pass and hold down the function key and the TV screen changes to a white screen initially and then goes back to a blank blue one. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them as I'm at a loss as to what to do next......

Hi, you might want to try a using a lower resolution monitor initially to make sure that it is a supported resolution for your laptop's graphics card. If the screen you are trying to use is too high in resolution, it will not display and will switch back to the laptop screen.

    Regards

    Atex

I recommend hooking it up to an LCD/CRT screen that is meant for a computer, not a huge HDTV. =P You can also keep trying the "Fn+F?" keys combination (replace ? with whatever your key with the monitor is). I sometime had to press "Fn+F7" several times on my dell to get it to come up on my Sony flat screen tv.

As a last resort, you can always pull the hard drive out of your laptop and put it into an external hard drive. =)

Hope I was able to help.

you need to set your laptop to give you multiple displays which you do in the control panel/graphics manager by cloning your desktop to your tv.
