    Help needed with wlan card

    Hi

Our old laptop got damaged ( fell off setee - screen gone ) So I decided to use another laptop that I'd been given , it's an old toshiba satelite pro 4600.

I took the wireless internet pci card out of the old laptop and fitted it in the new one , along with the driver going through the ' new hardware ' boxes. The card has 2 lights the first which comes on when laptop booted up. The card is labeled - comtrend , EDUP , 54 mbps/11 mbps , wireless lan card , IEEE802.11 B/G and the driver is the same one used on the old laptop , labeled - RT2500.sys , but I havn't got the original disc.

However , when I try to connect - the box comes up saying ' waiting for the network ' nothing happens , it eventually resets back to the begining. The second light on the card doesn't light up / or flash , although the light for the wireless is on on the router.

The card works fine on the other laptop ( just can't see 3/4 of the screen ).

    Anyone got any idea's / help ?

    Thanks , Adam

Did you connect the antenna wire thing into the card after you installed it into the slot?

Maybe you did, but just incase.. sometimes simple things are overlooked.

      Hi

      What antenna wire ?

It's a plug in pci card , just plug it into the pci slot on the side of the laptop.

I thought you meant the internal mini pci express slot laptops have for wifi cards

When you said "I took the wireless internet pci card out of the old laptop and fitted it in the new one".. sounded like you were talking about one of the internal ones.. which use an antenna wire
