Help With EXT3 Partition

I would really appreciate some help . I Have a Humax Foxsat and want to transfer HD recordings to a WD elements external hard drive. With my basic knowledge I created a Fat32 partition and anything under 4gb is fine. What I would like to do however is create an EXT3 partition but I don't know how.

So once I have downloaded the software how do I proceed? Whilst I found creating the fat partition straight forward I am uncertain about something that is not windows based.
