    copying difficulty

I'm coping a load of music for a chap who lives a few miles from me. I copied the files unto rewritable disc's, but he brought them back to me because they wouldn't play for him.He has a standard or maybe older cd or dvd player,he couldn't tell me much as he doesn't know anything about these things i'm still learning myself. So could any of you guys help me with the following questions.

1, what format do you suspect the music files need to be copied to?

2, Would the music files need to be opened before they are copied to disc?

3, Is it relevant as to whether the file are copied to CD/R or CD/RW?

4, Will the files play if they are copied to either DVD/R or DVD/RW?

I'm hoping that one of you guys will be able to assume what it is i'm what it is i'm after. Thanks in advance for replies

I make my audio discs using CD-R discs and use Nero at 2x speed . All my discs play on all DVD players and even older CD players. Only newer DVD and CD players will play MP3 files.

I think its the rewritable disk that are the problem unless they are finalised they will not get recognised in dvd player but pc's only, the problem with finalising rewritable disks is that you can not re use them again. I would try using standard cdr or dvdr disk and see how you get on.

Hopefully I'm not adding confusion to your problem.

If he can't tell you what he's using, I would make sure the disks are the most basic format & technology.

Use CD's not DVD's & only use single use disks.

Burn the disk as an audio CD, that wat they will be in .wav rather than mp3. All CD & DVD players can read .wav files.

And finally, as previously mentioned, burn at a slow speed. I'd be going for 4X maximum.

are you making a copy of the discs or are you simply dragging the tracks from the cd into a folder and burning.
ie if you put an audio cd into the cd drive of computer and explore that cd you will see a load of icons with track1 track 2 etc.
Now if you simply copy THOSE files you are not copying the music just the icons.
              does that make sense?

Yes it makes sense. I'll have to be honest, firstly i've learned a fair bit from all of your posts, lots of things i never realised that in future will come in handy. BUT! i was sitting up at 3.30 am trying to figure out after all your advice, why i still was unable to get disc's to play in his cd player when i discovered i was using dvd rw. Sorry chaps. So i'll buy a packet of cd's and try again. But i learned something all the same.
