Dell PC wont recognise File NVRD32.sys

My Dell PC is around 5 years old and I decided to try and reformat it as some files have been corrupted over the years. I tried to put the disk XP Professional in over the existing XP home disc and it keeps cutting out and rebooting as message comes "File NVRD32.SYS could not be found". I know the file is there and I have even copied it to another couple of folders so its in a few places but its still not recognised but it does exist.

Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this problem, know a little bit about PC stuff but not no expert.

Any help appreciated as I am fed up of rebooting (pressing F12 will start up XP home again).

    Thanks

just format or wipe hard drive and do a clean install, heres a link to active killdisk you can load on boot use the tool to wipe your disk then you are all ready to load xp pro no problem.(saves all the trouble you are having) it's never let me down.http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&sou...GYyVCd2vWyxy8Q use this to burn onto cd http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&sou...ojMsNpdCqDIJOQ

      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5 cant get correct download

New problem with pc crashing on driver download?

I have updated all the drivers except for the WLAN one. I have downloaded it from various places but each time it finishes downloading I immediately get a "serious message - pc shutdown to prevent damage" type thing and then I have to reboot with F8 and return to "Last know good configuration". Does this mean I need a new WLAN card or does it mean I need a different driver - I did match it completely to the one I need from the manufacturers notes?
Any advice please - funds are non-existant and cant buy new card.
          Thanks
