usb to rs232 cable advice please

i hope you can please advise, i have an old laptop which i want to use just for music, it has floppy rs232 printer port only, it has basic dos boot software only installed, i would like to install some software to use something like wmp/linux version or even win,ce i have a laptop with win7/xp, can i connect to the old one linking these two together with just the usb/rs232 cable to install any form of software?, the old laptop can accept win98 but i think little more but i think that will do as it is only to use as a karaoke player

I seem to remember laplink would do this... or maybe email yourself and get a modem and dial-up to get email?
