Hi my friend has f###edup his pc.when he starts it up it allows him to type in his password then it logs of and shuts down.\he said it started after he putin Virgin Medias security,i dont think thats the problem,he said that he has tried getting into the sart up menu,and tryingto do a system restore.but this wont let him.He hasnt saved any of his phots and files so he wont let me format it and start from scratch,any ideas are welcome.

use a bootable recovery program and save his files to CD or DVD and then you can format it -
I'll second that. Here in DK you'll find Herons recovery CD [download section] that will allow you to repair or at least save data from hard drive. Did You try booting to win safe mode and uninstalling security prog from there? What Os is installed on Pc at the moment? If win xp and you have original xp cd you can do system re-install with out loosing any data on HD. Stick Cd in let it load do NOT press R when asked but carry on with install precedure once it goes to the bit when xp askes you to press f8. Press f8 then it will say that there is alredy operating system installed and win will try to repair instalation press OK/next it will go thru all of the instalation procedure but it will not wipe the drive so all saved data music still be there.Comment
