    what motherboard you got mate, and what CPU ?
    Have you checked in your BIOS to see if you can alter the speed in there ?

      .....and be prepared to fork out for a decent HSF

      (overclocked CPUs give off a terrible smell when they pop )

          You need to go into your bios, if I were you I would look for an overclock protection in there before playing with the settings, this will stop your pc from booting if you use settings that would damage your hardware, try tomshardware.com for guides for your particular model of motherboard etc.

                don't try overclocking unless you know what to do! you may loose your pc once for all.
                get documented about your hardware before trying "trick" or just call on experts.
