Computer failing to boot properly, HELP

I've got a leased computer running on Windows XP which is failing to start up correctly. You switch it on and the standard windows screen appears then it goes into the Safe Mode selections. I've tried every option from last known good configuration, safe mode etc but it just goes through the motions of attempting to boot up then returns to the safe mode option.

Is there a straight forward remedy for this, short of a can of petrol. The computer is due to be returned this month and I want to remove al my notes and reformat it before returning it. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately when you put the CD in the drive it does the same as above. It says press any key to enter setup then the windows safe screen appears again. It never gets beyond the safe screen regardless what I do.

        try this

download the torrent hirens Hirens BootCD v13.0 [+Instalador Boot USB][+Mini Windows XP][WwW.ZoNaTorrent.CoM] ? hirens ? isoHunt ? the BitTorrent & P2P search engine

burn it to a disk and try n run mini xp

if it works make a new partition from C:/ and save all docs to new partition format C:/ using hirens

or even better have u got more than 512mb ram ??

install windows 7 over the top of XP
this will create an OLD WINDOWS XP FOLDER in ur new Windows 7 C:/

If it does not allow you to boot from CD try and boot it from a USB. This worked for me a while back.

Also if you do get access to Recovery Console, run CHKDSK, this could fix your problems and also try FIXMBR that is to fix the master boot record if there are any problems with it.

I kept trying to boot from the CD and after loads of attempts and fails it eventualy got to the directory where I ran chkdsk which came up with a few errors one not recognising the boot format. Ran fixboot and touch wood it's now working. Cheers again.
