laptop wont show through tv

hi all, i have a acer laptop 3613wlmi and i want to connect it to my samsung LE32R51BD. when i connect and change the output on the laptop to monitor nothing happens. when i try in on the tv in the kitchen it works fine. i've tried different cables on the samsung but no joy. the pc port works cos it works when i use the xbox 360 pc cable. Any thoughts.

Change the display settings on your laptop mate to 800 x 600 should do it works 4 me.................

ive tried that, the only thing i can see, is that the pins on the 360's cable are a bit longer.

Use a normal VGA cable

i have, but i think i need a proper one, as these were off egabay and cheap.might need to buy a decent set.
