    sick pc

my pc has xp and everytime i start it up it shows xp starting normally then goes to a screen saying windows did not shut down properly;start windows in normal, last known good configuration, start windows in safety or with command prompt.no matter which one i pick it tries to start normally then flicks on to a blue screen for a millisecond then back to windows did not shut down properly etc etc.its like its caught in a time warp. any ideas or do i just shoot it.

if any new hardware has been fitted to pc this can cause conflicts best to remove it then try a restart or software remove it in safe mode or as suggested a system restore.

If all the above fails then put in your xp cd and boot from it, when asked press R for repair, at the command prompt type CHKDSK /R
this will check all file and replace one's that are damaged, PS it wont delete any of your files, good luck

Not sure what the 8 means, but why not load BIOS defaults, and change boot up options to read CDROM first, btw you are using the windows XP disk.?

Sorry to bother....but this is hardware related...scrwd motherboard....or bad cables...i hope the last. when a pc tries a repair install and @ first sees the cd and then fails....thats usually means busted "serialk bus" on the mobo or somthing simular...or the pc's cables r broken or not set in tight enough....open the pc clean it remove all dust (watch out for electro-static) then take everything out (aka cables and mem) clean them to. put everything back together and restart the Repair process.
If that doesnt do it....try booting with only the hd, 1 mem bar and see what it does then. Still no "love"?
You can repeat the above process with another hd/mem config. The reason for this is that u can rule out what part (if it is hardware) is broken.

                        Hope this helps....good luck.

                          Hi,
Have you installed any new software or removed any software prior to the BSOD error?

As you mentioned earlier you tried the Recovery Console with the windows XP CD & you got an error thrown back at ya.. chances are even if you did manage to get past that error msg you would run into more difficulties during install when it starts to copy the files accross from the cd to the hard drive & 9 times out of 10 in my expirience as soon as i have replaced the Ram it straightend it self out as the Ram plays a big part in processing data between the CPU and the Hard drive. if the Ram is playing up the CPU is basically being starved of information and basically stops what its doing & throws an error at you saying X Y and Z. dependent on what its currently dealing with at the time. try changing the Ram for starters it may save you time in racking your brains looking for a answer that could be starring you in the face all along.

Let us know how you get on and what you have tried so far.
                          Good luck

                          Street.

The problem here is sectors on the hdd. I have had this many times...
1st go into bios an set your boot sequence to:
                            1st cdrom
                            2nd hard disk

Put your windows xp into the drive and reset the pc.
Boot from cd and enter the recovery console.
Boot to coorect windows instal. (usually number 1)
This should give you a dos promt.
                            Type chkdsk /p then /r
This will check the hard drive for faults and repair them if it can.

If all the above fails reinstal windows.
