hi mate hope you can help got windows xp proffesional but cant get on computer wen i start it up it comes up in a box in middle of screen asking for a username and a password could you help me solve this ive tried running computer in safe mode yet it still starts up with box in middle of screen stating password and username ///thanks

XP prof has networking files added and it sounds like the box you are getting is the logon box. If you didn't set up a password when you installed, the logon details should be administrator with a blank password - you don't say whether there is a 3rd box which says logon to - if there was a password added that you don't know, then you can remove this by booting from a CD either internal or external and running Hirens Boot disk - this has a facility for removing local admin passwords
