    Laptop freezing

Has anyone got any ideas on this problem:-

My extremely old lifebook laptop freezes constantly, I would say within 2 minutes of starting up every time. It also freezes on the bios screen when I attempt to look at that.

I was thinking Ram at first but it has two slots and both would have to go at once for it not to work? I think?
What about overheating? Is 2 minutes long enough for it to overheat?

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

check the ram and give the machine a good clean from dust etc. inside and out and check the OS has not become corrupt and check for virus etc

I'd be looking at the thermal paste between the processor & the heatsink. With age it will breakdown & no longer transfer the heat correctly.

freezing at bios screen sounds deffo hardware. What bios is it as some show you the cpu temp have a look there. Usually there is a fan underneath make sure that is working and not blocked. This fan may stop and start as it kicks in when cpu needs it on some lappys to reduce sound. Would also maybe download hirens boot cd as there are lots of tools on that to test memory etc.

Looked for cpu temp section, found nothing before it froze !!! will try a good clean first and maybe try that boot cd.
