    portable hard drive

    I am thinking of buying a 160gb portable hard drive.Would i be able to transfer EVERYTHING from my computer on to it and save as back up,should my computer break down?Cheers.James.

    Yes mate everything but the operating system as long as you dont have more than 160gb of info to save .................

        Yes you can just drag and drop it,cut and paste is best as it moves the file and dont just copy it,make sure if its FAT32 no file is bigger than 3.8 to 4 gig,im sure somone will put you right if ive given you the wrong info...............

          Macrium Reflect is easy to use and free.

          Use CCcleaner to get rid of the crap from the old drive first, then defragment it (defraggler is free), then run Macrium Reflect.

          A re-install from backup is about 20 minutes tops, I set it going and go for a brew, by the time I'm back it's job done.



          PS. Using cut and paste would leave the original disc empty so a bit pointless as you'd have to copy and paste back - and it doesn't work anyway for copying an operating system.
