    2nd hard drive

Installed another gig of ram as advised in previous thread & bought a 320 gig hitachi hard drive from pc world fitted hard drive & system would not run. I had to remove 2nd hard drive & re boot system to last known start with correct settings. any help would be appreciated. Does it matter how the jumpers are set on the hard drives???

    pc is HP Pavillion a310.uk
now has 2 gig of ram
    80 gig hard drive
    xp pro
    office 2007 pro

If you are using the same IDE cable for both hard drives, the 2nd one will need to be jumpered as a slave and the main hard drive the master.

      Like Devilfish said.

There should be a little diagram on the drive itself to tell where to place the jumper to make it slave etc.

If the primary hard drive is set to "cable select", i would reccommend you set it to master and the new one to slave, that should kick it into gear.

Also check the bios to see if the motherboard detects the new drive.
