Try resetting the modem and router together

The Last time I set up one , I used a wired connection on the initial setup using a Windows 7 laptop , when I wanted a Vista Laptop to connect wirelessly I had to disable the routers security and then go through the security options untill I found one that didnot coflict with any of the operating systems.

Yeah, D-link dongle a bit crap.

There could be interference from other devices near the router.

You should also check for other wi-fi sources operating on the same channel.

It has to be low signal or other items drowning out the signal.

Wait for the new router, if that doesn't help try moving it away from electrical devices.

If it still doesn't work try getting a more powerful USB dongle for the laptop.

I use one of these... 1000mW wi-fi dongle

I have no problems picking up wi-fi signals from 4 houses away.

as i said in my earlier post setup was no problem my router is in spare bedroom laptop downstairs, will even pick up great outside in back yard diff is my laptop has built in wifi.I reset my daughters netgear router last week she was having problems with pc in back room picking up signal using trendnet dongle replaced with dlink pci card since then no probs at all so canker could be right if you get a better quality dongle. ps vermin customer service did same tests and said they would send out new router although it aint arrived yet! still she dont need it now.
