When I connected a laptop to a tv exactly the same thing happened so I set up the dual display option on the laptop and as soon as that was done the tv reconised the signal from the laptop.

If you need to buy another hdmi cable then try this
[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wired--up-v1-3A-Plated-Connectors-Cable/dp/B0017RW94A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316622585&sr=8-1]Wired--up v1.3A HDMI to HDMI Gold Plated Connectors: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics[/ame]

I got 8 of them and they work perfectly.

I have no idea what the "-p" means on your hdmi lead.
When I first ever tried to connect a lap top to the tv I used my sons expensive hdmi lead that he got for his playstation and that lead did not work, when I got the ones off amazon they worked perfectly with my laptop, media streamer and dvd player.
