connot connect to games with new console

hello,
just bought a ps2 playstation 2 controller gamepad and a my-link ps2 ps contoller to pc usb convertor adaptor,
so my son can play his games on the pc without using the mouse.
have it installed but cannot get it to connect to any games.
gone into control panel-game controllers-twin usb joystick-
properties- test.everything seems to be working ok,but when
i try to use controller with a game it does not work ,only the mouse works.unplugged the mouse to see if that made any difference,but didnt.am i missing something,

been on you tube,anybody used joytokey or xpadder.exe.
going to try joytokey first.will let you know.

using xpadder,
nearly got all the buttons and sticks syncronised.

i used motioninjoy and xpadder for my ps3 controller to work on new games like fifa 12 and f1 2011
ive attached the prgrammes i used on my windows 7 pc
to get xpadder to work on windows 7 right click it
select properties
choose the compatibity tab
tick box where it says 'run this programme in compatibity mode for'
and then in the drop down menu select windows xp service pack 3
apply
ok
xpadder should open up on pc now
for vista select windows service pack 2

hi pspmixer,
i am using windows xp,and xpadder 5.6.and
a tutorial off you tube.all working fine now.
thanks for the file,will install it on my other pc.
