serious problem playing pc games (help needed)

i recently download and installed f1 2011 razor edition
starting playing well got thu half the race then my pc turns off by itself
    dont know why
three things i could think it mite be -
ive installed it to a external hard drive to try and keep more room for other data

pc gets too hot and shuts down as it cant kope

this version is rubbish and has corrupted files

my pc can play games such as fifa 12, crysis 2 etc so dont think it was the graphics that over ran it
hope someone can guide me sorting this problem out as it starting to bug me

    A:
If I was you I would clean everything inside the case of dust (hoover does the job but be careful), apply some fresh conductive compound to heat sink and CPU, consider disabling unwanted running services in the backround. Run some reg/file cleaner and defrag your HDD, maybe better to reinstall windows.

    B:
    Use lower gaming settings
If overclocked GPU/CPU consider lowering your values

    C:
Bin your curent system and buy something more powerful!!

iam using my ps3 controller on it all them drivers are up to date
just incase you arew ondering why iam not using my ps3
this is because it is on cfw 3.55 and people that know what that is - it basiclly mean you cant play new plays on it until a new cfw comes out or a fix for the game you want to play

If your seeing a glimpse of BSOD before it shuts down you can disable the option to shut down the PC so you can read the BSOD.

I had a similar problem a while back with it doing what your posted. Cleaned it all out it was chocker with dust tried it again anything cpu intensive it'd shutdown . What it was is under the cpu fan on the heatsink I unscrewed it off and the heatsink under the fan was full off dust down the thin bits on the heatsink stopping any air getting to it. Might be worth a try anyway.
