reason why i ask is cause of this post here where the guy says to use telnet in xp but not in vista, see here >>> http://forum1.netgear.com/showpost.p...85&postcount=1
I know i can switch the telnet client on in vista but still iam wondering why he's saying it dont work, hmmm ??? its important too as i dont want to brick my router with a failed flash attempt. -
Vista has the telnet client disabled by default, to enable do;
1. Click the Start Orb
2. Click Control Panel
3. Select Programs
4. Select Turn Windows Features on or off
5. May need to confirm the UAC
6. Wait?
7. Click the checkboxes beside the telnet client or server.Comment

Apologies m8 I should have read your post a bit more carefully. My interpretation of his post is that the telnet client is standard in Windows XP but not Vista which is true. I have a netgear router though not the same model as yours and I have upgraded and downgraded my router without any problems.Last edited by Curious123; 10 January, 2009, 00:26.Comment

i take it you mean the update part of the router configuration page ??
If so, yes that works for standard routers (ones you buy yourself from a shop etc), but when its a router issued by a company such as virgin, they have shit already imbedded into the router firmware that stops you upgrading it unless its official virgin firmware upgrade, or you can try like iam trying, do it the other way,
, the hard way, then you basically turn your router into a bog standard one without isp's crap on it, either that or you turn it into a brick,
