Have you bought a bluray optical drive?

Specs for that machine list a DVD-RAM drive, not bluray.

They do have them with bluray

              here is one example
              Play.com - Buy Acer Aspire 6930G - 583G25BN / Core 2 Duo T5800 2GHz / 3GB / 250GB / 16 inch
              / Blu-ray / Vista Home Premium / Laptop / Notebook (LX.AUU0X.214) online at Play.com and read reviews.

their seems to be a lot of issues with acer laptop/notebooks lately.

this sounds like a software issue

try system restore if your lucky you might be able to undo the damage

restore to a point you know that the bluray drive worked.

              if not

have you updated any drivers or applications that use bluray like powerdvd
maybe or acer arcade you might want to update it or reinstall it.

here is the driver page if your looking for it
just select your operating sytem in the upper right corner
Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents

also might want to check the recovery software that acer uses if all else fails
(make sure you backup anything important before doing this) you can also use this to install
              any applications or drivers missing

I'm too lazy to read every link.

I'd be looking at the laser being at fault as well. It's possible the power resistance needs to be lowered on the laser.
