Hi all.
My son is at Uni,he was working on his laptop mentioned above,when it simply went off.It has not been dropped,anything spilled on it etc etc.
The battery and charger are both less than six months old and both work.
When i plug it into the mains the charge light comes on and when the power on/off button is pressed a blue light comes on as it should.There is no noise from the fan or hard drive,which works, and nothing on screen.I have totally stripped the laptop,cleaned all heatsinks vents etc and applied new thermal heatsink paste where needed.I have checked every solder joint for a dry one,nothing.I have inspected every copper track for a broken one,again nothing.I've trieed the "no power supply or battery,hold power button trick",again nothing.
Has anyone come across this problem before and knows a solution or is it a case that the motherboard is dead ?
Any help/suggestion appreciated.

*UPDATE *
I left the laptop switched on and the fan DOES work,which tells me the CPU must be getting warm to trigger the thermal switch on the fan circuit,screen is still blank though.

Try an external monitor to eliminate the lcd.

Hi.
I have tried an external monitor in the last hour,nothing !
I alslo noticed that upon pressing the power button the cd/dvd drive makes a noise so power is getting to it also.

Hi,

If you can take it apart and put it back together you definetly know what your doing. I will asume that when you tried the external monitor you used the fn/f4 or whatever f key to toggle between lcd and external.

Does it show the POST screen or is it always black?

Does the HD led light up as if it's loading windows?

Have you tried a bootable cd to see if that works?

A search on goole shows your not the only one with this laptop that has this issue.

No.

No bootable cd to hand except for my Windows7 pc that refuses to run on the laptop which has Vista.

I tried all key press configurations i can remember when conencted to external screen,all with the same result.
I'm begining to think the MoBo is fubar.

I think I would agree. Of the 7 motherboards for that model on ebay UK, 5 are listed as faulty, 1 is untested and 1 is tested as good for ?79.99.

But you might as well try a few more things before giving up.

Try different memory if possible or if 2 sticks try separately in both slots.

Try a different CPU if you can. ( Yes I know, easier said than done)

Try it without the battery, only the charger ( this was an issue on one of my laptops)

Tried everything except different memory,but then i get no post beep code for faulty memory,may be worth a shot though.

*** SOLVED ***
As the price of a new motherboard was ?125 (cheapest) i decided to take a punt on one off ebay which was the only used one listed as untested,the rest were listed as faulty.
I bought it and swapped it with the one in the laptop,fired it up and BINGO,running like a good un.
The price ?
?19.99
The moral ? Take a gamble every now and again,sometimes they pay off.
