Xp for compaq CQ61

Hi guy's and anyone help me? i have compaq presario CQ61 with windows 7 preinstalled on it i need to install windows xp pro on in but every time i try to start install i get a blue screen , i think its something to do with sata drivers i have tryed to read around google but i just dont know whats what ! streemlineing drivers ect ect can anyone help me ????

When is it blue screening? Is it telling you there was no hard disk found and quitting the install? Are you talking about "slipstreaming" the SATA drivers into the XP cd?

Yeah thats it "slipstreeming" did try it but it didnt work not sure if i had the right drivers , think its missing the HD drivers like you said , you got any other idea,s how i could get this stupid laptop to end up with xp on it ..

Go to the link that nibblitz posted and read carefully. It has links to all the drivers you will need, unfortunately your's is listed under difficult models. You will need to know what hardware is in your laptop.

If you have a USB floppy drive you can install the SATA drivers using f6 at the start of the install instead of slipstreaming an XP cd.

Do you have a Win7 dvd or a recovery option so you can go back if need be? If not I would make an image of Win 7 just in case.

Another option is to keep Win7 and download and install XP mode and just run it in a virtual machine.
