charger blew up casuing laptop not to work

    okay

The other day I was using my laptop and all of a sudden my charger blew up, bang like a firework and instantly my laptop turned off! it goes without saying the charger is not working anymore.

Anyway I bought a replacement charger to see if the laptop is working or not. It powers up, . you can see the hardrive light flashing, the battery seems to be holding charge.

However when the screen turns on , it's all grey, and the fan noise suggests that the fan is speeding up. and then suddenly the laptop turns off.

tried it on an external monitor. It shows nothing up on there, however the laptop screen remains with the grey screen and then a few seconds later it shuts down!

any ideas what the problem is and if the laptop is repairable?

    Thanks for any advice.

Take it a part and check caps around charger plug if they are blown/dark smoked ...

when the supply blew it may have caused somthing in the laptop to also fail, It could also be locked up/confused due to the power supply blowing up near it. try getting into and resetting the system bios, also try removing the laptop bios backup battery and main battery over night and see if that helps.

The grey screen would suggest the backlight for the display is working but there is no video getting to it.

        thanks both of you.

but i cant get into bios....it comes on a for a few secs and it turns off .

So are you suggesting the graphic cards has gone?

how do you explain the 10 seconds power on and turns off?

where can i find the bios battery?

I'm not suggesting the video card, the motherboard is not even coming up with p.o.s.t. so it could be anything.
The bios battery is inside on the motherboard somewhere, you would need the laptop mainboard manual. There could be a failure in one of the sub power supplies on the main board, when the main power supply comes on and sees too high a load it will shut itself down to protect itself from blowing up.

Take the Laptops battery out and then try powering it up on just the charger.
