    pc wont boot up

hello,my pc running windows xp wont boot up due to a power cut.
when i turn the pc on,black screen comes up with the choice,
    start in safe mode,
    safe mode with net,
    safe mode with command prompt,
    last knwn config
then the countdown begins ,but whichever one i chose
dose not respond, and just goes into a continuous loop
of turning on and off with the above message.
    any help please.

You need to run chkdsk from either a windows cd or hirens cd.

              Search for "manual system restore"
This will fix problem, but system restore had to be turned on before the problem.

Some PC's like HP have a restore partion on the drive, to get to it you normally press one of the F keys abt boot up, What make of PC is it?

as above tho less likely with xp. if you tell us model il tell you if it has hidden recovery partition.

failure of that you will need a xp disk to do a repair

He can't get into windows to run msconfig.

Check in bios see if usb legacy is enabled. Then you should be able to choose an option.

I'd still run chkdsk /r to scan the hard drive for errors which is most likely the cause

Sound like you need to run an XP repair/install from an XP setupo CD that supports it.

It might be easier to just re-install XP.
