Black screen after bios

Hi,
Got a little problem with my laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote TM)

It's running Windows 7 home

When I turn it on the boot/bios menu thing comes up with the Packard Bell logo and it allows me to press F2 to go into the settings.....but after that Windows doesn't load

The screen stays black, but the back light is on.

What's will the problem be?

I thought the boot loader might have been the case.

Will it matter that I only have a Windows 7 Ultimate disk rather than a Home?

no it should be ok just give it a try its clever enuff to tell you if not ..
you may ave to press f8 key for boot menu so it loads of disc or alter boot sequence in bios

It looks to me as if your hard drive is corrupted or died. If you got recovery disk try running that to see if you can get it going again or run a disk check to see if hard drive is ok.Some laptops have had a disk check utility build in to bios so it might be worth having a look in there if there is such an option. Other thing you could try doing is to pull hard drive out and holding it flat in your hand do a quick twist to right that might get it unstuck if spinning wheel is stuck . Managed to get couple of hard drives going again this way but that means that hard drive is on it's way out. If you got a hidden partion on hard drive you should be able to run windows repair or restore Try pressing I think it's f11 soon after pressing power button

Put the disk in and it doesn't seem to do anything even when I select boot from DVD-RAM from pressing F12

However if I press Alt+F10, I get this screen




Then if I select the Windows repair, the boot manager comes back



If I select the memory diagnostics, I get this screen



Is the HDD knackered? Or does it need formatting and a fresh install?

Sounds like an hard drive fai/corupted mbr. Go in to bios and under first booting option select CD as 1st boot device and hard drive as 2nd boot device then press f10 to save settings. laptop will reboot stick win 7 cd in the drive and see if you can run system repair or restore. Other than that download hirons?? cd from dk burn iso disk and run it . It should have all the diagnostic soft for hard drive. Alternatively download ubuntu live cd [linux] run that without installing on to hard drive, once ubuntu live cd loads try to explore your hard drive. If you can explore you should be able to save some of your data on to removable pen drive.[Switch off] and then try reloading windows. But usally you will have to have a same cd to reinstall as the one on the sticker ie:if iit's home edition you will have to have home cd other wise windows key will not work.

I have changed bios to order the CD driver first then HDD

I have a sata/ide to USB kit, so I'll plug the HDD into the tower PC to try and recovery the data.

Had a search on net for restoring from hiden partion and all that comes back is f10 which you have tried. What I would do is try to connect hard drive to your tower pc and see if you can get any response, that way we will see if hard drive is any good and if you can read any info from it.

live CD

A quick method to eliminate most of the hardware is to boot with a Linux Live CD/DVD. Download one, say Ubuntu, and boot with the CD/DVD in the drive. If this operating system loads without problems then you are looking at a HDD or installation problem...simples!

Got a copy of Windows 7 Home, and inserted it.

I get the screen where it says "windows loading files....."

Then it just goes black again, and all I can see is my mouse courser, which I can move about but nothing else happens; sounds like the disk has stopped spinning too.

Think the HDD is ****ed, as when I plug it in the tower PC, it asks me to format it.

Trying data recovery now.
