lost taskbar desktop icons, need help.

hi everybody, i have a dell labtop xp, i have lost all icons/taskbarr / start, i just have wallpaper background showing, i have tryed Task manager, typeing in (explorer .exe) amd i tryed system restore , but still no taskbar or icons or start, any ideas welcome, thanks,

A program called explorer.exe controls the display of your taskbar and desktop icons. If for some reason it goes missing (you may have killed it using Task Manager, for example, or something more sinister like a virus has deleted it from your processes), then try this first:

1. Open Task Manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click Task Manager).
2. On the Applications tab, click New Task at the bottom right of the window.
3. Type explorer.exe, then click OK.

If nothing sinister caused it to disappear, it should all come back as it was and you can stop panicking, breathe a sigh of relief, and continue working.
If that does not work, then try this:

1. Open Task Manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click Task Manager).
2. Go to the Processes tab.
3. Click on the Image Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
4. Find all explorer.exe processes - select each, then click End Process for each one.
5. On the Applications tab, click New Task at the bottom right of the window.
6. Type explorer.exe, then click OK.

hi , i have tryed that today , but in image name , i cant find explorer.exe) its not on the list? thanks again,,

What happens when you go into Safe Mode? How about Safe Mode with Command Prompt?

it wont do anything in safe mode, it will not start up in safe mode. it just gives a black screen with the word .. safe mode in the screen, but it will not boot up in any of the safe modes,, thanks

might be a corrupt profile

press ctrl alt del file-run- start explorer.exe

or

reset your desktop

also use your security softwares to check any problems like viruses and other threats

Do you have a system restore?

If so try to revert back to that, then run a AV check and on top of that id...

Run command prompt as administrator Start -> Accessories, right click command prompt and run as administrator. Type SFC /scannow then press enter
