Have you tried booting from the Windows cdrom and choosing Repair?

    THE TRUTH
    The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

Recovery CD's will generally wipe your C: partition clean,
the only expepetions are Sony Vaio recovery centre, and HP recovery centre, both which give you solution to backup your files before recoving the disk from the recovery paritition.

best idea, download Hirens boot disk,, boot to mini-xp,put your files onto usb drive, and then use windows disk or recovery partition to recover your windows, then recovery your data form your usb.
                      cheers

on the hirens disk theres a utility called mini-xp..
It basically boots your pc into a mini-xp, and mounts your internal drives,( boots from the CD and creats a RAM disk to boot from ),, so you get a usuable xp and you can see your drives in my computer.
usb drive i dont know, it depends, you can defo get drive's larger than 70gb though so even if you wanted backup your full drive, ( which you dont, you only want the user folder with the pics and docs, )
were talking an external drive not a usb pen or flash drive,
you can use a pen drive of flash drive if your docs are under the size of the drive, which you can get a 8gb one cheap as chips.

if your machine only has 1 partition 70gb, using a recovery disk would defo wipe out the entire drive. but if you have booted into mini-xp and saved all your stuff first, it doesnt really matter.

oh, have your usb drive plugged into computer BEFORE you boot the mini-xp, or it might not see it in my computer once you boot into the mni-xp
