i had 2 2gb sticks and the lappy would not work correctly,,then tried one and it was fine,,so i sent the other one back to crucial for a refund,,they even scanned the lappy through there site beforehand to advise what i could and couldnt have so i dont need another ram stick as it wont work
need the 500gb hdd though,,

Post make and model of laptop mate. If there is 2 dimm slots on board then both can be populated. Only thing is how much and speed the board can handle.

There could even been a bios update to allow more ram to be added.

there are two slots for RAM,forgot to add in previous post that i have the 2gb stick alongside the 512 so both slots are populated

That p100 model *should* take the 4gb,,,
thats its Max,, or it should be, are you sure both sticks were ok (2gb ones)?

on your ram stick look for like someone mentioned pc-6400 800MHZ,,,,
or 5300 and 600MHZ?
check both sticks are same.
as for drive, been said already, get a 500gb

i think cruical ****ed up with the ram 1 stick may have been broken did u test this by changing them over n booting to windows b4 u decieded that it couldnt take it? becuase if it couldnt ur 512 that u got in there atm shouldnt work either

how much laptop ram has ur son got in his?? if he has 4GB then pull this outta his n put intoo urs making sure its DDR2 or PC2

if not n he only has 1 2GB stick make sure again its DDR2 and see if it matches ur stick PC2-5300 EXample

if it is the same slot it in n see if it boots/sees it in windows
