I have a friends laptop that will only take 80% boot up then stalls would this be a scratch or faulty disc. also can you use discs from other models, it's xp.

Laptop model, what exactly are you trying to boot from?

Best thing i would say, is back up drivers if possible and get a disc with Windows ?? whatever on it and do a clean install

reloaded xp pro and now up and running so far so good. only thing was it stopped at 97% and would not load feg5 file so i skipped it anyone know what this will affect. the disc was clean dont know why it cant loadComment

I have installed the new 2009 XP Black on a few of my friends computers without any issues at all, you should give it a bash its a super OS.Comment

it was a complete restore maybe i got the file name wrong slightly waiting for feedback from my mate to see if he has any probsComment

i think with it being a restore that word was also involved and should not affect the os at all.sigpic

Try installing SP3, it may solve the problem.
