    Making my own network

This is just an idea at the moment, I am looking to implement, but
I am considering making my own private long range Wifi network.

Does anyone know what sort of range you get from a wireless router and is there anyway to boost this.

I suppose the most ideal situation would be using my tv ariel in some shape or form.

I have a number of friends in the area so boosting the signal isn't a problem.
