pc help needed please

hi all need some help please booted up pc yesterday and was found with a screen saying startup repair that runs for about 30 mins and then it will say startup could not detect a problem press finish to restart so i do and get the same thing over again, when i try to go to safe mode i get the same screen ??? i cant even do a restore , anyone got a clue whatto do please ??? running win7 and cant get pasted the startup repair screen

Have you tried running a repair disc? Or if you don't have one just run your original win7 installation disc, there is an option within to repair, it may solve your problem, just be sure to change boot order so that disk drive is first. Sounds like startup files may be missing or corrupt.

tryed the win7 disk to repair i get to the system recovery options it scans for a bit then i get operating system win 7 the partition size and location (c) local disk i then clink on win7 and press next then i get a pop up saying this version of system recovery options is not compatible with this version of windows you are trying to repair

Hey!First of all I am sure that you won't be able to use the repair kit because the windows would have updated the service packs to the original that came with the win7 installer. However, it is not all bad news. the only bad part in this is that you will have to re-install the windows and lose perhaps a few MB of your HDD. If you think that is not a problem then do the following:

1. Backup all your data if you can using a DOS based application like NC5 (freely available on the internet). Do this especially if you have only one partition on your HDD.
2. Boot using your windows DVD and follow the process for a new windows installation.
3. When you come to the location where you want to insall the new windows: delete the current windows partition (usually Drive C:\). Then in the un-allocated space, create a new partition for 300MB. And then another partition with whatever is remaining or watever size you want for you windows installation. Depending on the flavor of the windows you are installing, I would give at least 100GB for just the windows.
4. Select the partition you just created for wndows (Partition 2 in the above process 3).
5. it will ask you about the formatting and stuff, you can safely use NTFS quick format and install the windows.
You will need to install all the drivers and stuff once windows is installed.

This is a common thing that I have seen and ben asked where there is a bad sector but the Win7 drive Checker cannot identify it. Once you put the the boot sector that may have been used by the earlier version of the windows, the bad sector is skipped by windows and a new start location is written in the MBR.
