windows 7 x64 wont recongise hard drive

    windows 7 x64 wont recongise hard drive

    windows 7 wont recognise external hard drive it comes up showing as initio defualt controller
    hard drive is an external western digital passport which is connect via usb 2.0
    its ment to be a plug an play drive but not working with x64 os systems
    it works fine on x32 versions
    how can i get it too work on a x64 bit version thanks

    try google if no one can help here, type your question and see what comes up. Ive seen some other people have had the same problem, some have solved it with changing the USB lead, some have had to re-install windows7.

      tryed changing lead and repairing windows os but still does the same thing

        Did you check if the WD has enough power through usb?
        Try to connect it via usb-hub with power supply.

          the hard drive works on x32 bit windows 7 so there is enuff power going to it

            Try plugging it in, then right click on 'Computer' - select 'Manage'.

            Then, in the left hand menu, look for 'disk management' - or similar.

            It should then give you a list of partitions at the top, and physical disks below...

            Does it should the new disk? If it does, and it is not appearing in 'My Computer' etc, then you may need to right click on the drive (in disk management), and assign it a drive letter...

            Be careful not to format the drive though!
