    New External Hard Drive

    I bought a new external 2.5 500gb usb powered hard drive, and the home pc is running windows 7, the computer at work runs windows 7, and a laptop runs xp.
    When i plug into home pc it doesnt recognise it, but the other 2 pcs do, does anyone know why?

      Try a different USB port on the PC.

      If you're trying to use the front USB connections & they're not connected to the board correctly they won't work. Had this problem with a previous PC.

          Canker, thanks for you reply.

          I did use the HD on various USBs, to no avail, but when i got home, i unplugged every usb device even the mouse, plugged in the hd, and it was detected and recognised straight away, and after i plugged all the other stuff in, i can use it on any port.

          strange but it now works, so thanks for taking the time to try and help me, much appreciated.
