Is this spyware or something similar?

hi, this may be a little hard to understand but i'll try to explain the best i can.

Right, lets say i am on a certain webpage looking for a holiday, i look at a certain hotel then decide to close down the page and look again later. i then open up another page (this one for instance) and on the adverts down the side of this page, the hotel ive just been looking at is advertised. it dont just happen with hotels, ive noticed it also happened with ferries, things ive looked at on ebay etc...

Is this some sort of spyware? how can a new webpage advertise something ive been looking at on prevoius one or is it just a coinsidance? how can i stop it from happening?

Thank you, i hope ive explained it ok.

If you are using firefox for your web browser you can download NoScript from Mozilla/Firefox website.

Once installed it will block all scripting until you allow selected sites to load.

                  An example would be....
Allow digital-kaos.co.uk (in bold as it's the primary site)
                  Forbid Google-analytics.com
                  Forbid Googleapis.com

Sites like youtube need certain scripts to work. ytimg.com is the most common for streaming video.

It's all trial & error to begin with. But you can give temporary permission for scripts which is removed when firefox is closed.

Use Firefox, get the add on adblock plus. Then no more adverts.

I use Ghostery to stop ad tracking its an opera extension, it blocks hundreds of ad companies but not sure if is available for Firefox or IE.

                            This is normal.

Google (and other advertising companies) identify your "needs" based on the webistes that You visit.

                            How:

The identifiy YOU - cookies ... or just simply your IP
YOUR NEEDS - the overall content of the websites
WHAT websites you visit - googles partner websites have google adsense sotware installed that tracks "who" enters the website and reports to google.
