as far as i know windows 7 32bit will only work with up to 4gb ram,any more than that is just a waste,i could be wrong,
but just like xp,can put in 8gb ram but it will only work with a max of 3gb.

But this is not the case for the 64-bit flavor of Windows 7. The Home Basic and Starter SKUs can manage up to 8 GB of RAM, with Home Premium taking the limit to 16 GB. The Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate versions of Windows 7 will support as much as 192 GB of RAM.

As ray said could be windows version

Max memory limits for 64-bit Windows 7 | ZDNet

However, also check to see if a bios update is required

Did you not read rays reply? If you want to use 32gb of ram then you will need a x64 os. However read the link i posted as not all window7 versions will see upto 32gb of ram.

My understanding on this is a little different to whats above.

Yes you will need to switch to Windows 7 x64

But as it is, windows will see it, but will only let you use 8GB. The other 8GB will be used for paging instead of the HDD.
