Puppy is a live distro, it can be installed though and it gives you the option of saving your session every time you shut down. You can install ATI or NVidia drivers but must save your session to keep them. It's a fairly small download (135mb) and pretty easy to use, since its a live cd you can give it a try and see if it works with your hardware or if you like it.

I prefer a distro called Slax, it's also a live cd and it has KDE desktop which is super easy to use. You can install it but it's not as easy to save your session, you might have to do some config file editing. But, their forum will have all the answers you need. Any thing you need such as drivers or programs are modules which are put in the "modules" folder and loaded on startup.

I run both of these from a multi boot USB stick made with a program called Xboot. It's fairly easy to use and you can put as many Linux distro's on as you want.

I?d like to recommend the Instant OS, like Jolicloud or Damn Small Linux: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/, Zenwalk www.zenwalk.org - Ever tried zen computing?
, SliTaz: SliTaz GNU/Linux, Derivates of Ubuntu (Lubuntu lubuntu | simplify your computer or Xubuntu:Xubuntu) , or, as rg66 mentioned, Puppy Puppy Linux Community Home - Getting Started , they are very user-friendly and easy to manage and have small claim :-)
