I tried to-day to put it into quarantine, i getting the warning that it may crash my laptop.Usually virus go into quarantine automatically ,just not this one. I have never backed anything up and wouldn't know how to,or what needs backed up. Though i wouldn't think it would be that complicated. THANKS FOR YOUR POST.

Guys i know I'm not nuts all of the above is true. Last night i was in the process of backing up my s##t on the laptop when i discovered that this virus (spyware that was deemed a serious threat) was gone. I know i had it because my network was really sluggish .Is it possible i deleted something and was unaware that i did and took the virus with it? Wee laptop going a dinger again.

download malwaresbyte and spy bot search and destroy, update them both, then reboot into safe mode and do a scan with them
(by the way you cant scan with both proggies at the same time),then boot up into normal mode and do a couple more scans

its more effective to remove the hard drive and plug into another system as slave then run malwarebytes

                I'll second that.

Even in safe mode there are protected files running that could hide nasties.

I prefer to remove infected drives & plug them into a netbook I have screwed down so tight, you can't fart without a warning popping up.

I would not suggest to do that on Windows (the other system) as you may infect that one as well.

Use Linux (I use Ubuntu 10.04 for this kind of job). You don't need to remove the hard drive since Ubuntu comes as Live Disk.
Just boot the disk, install ClamAV, update and scan the windows partitions. To mount the partitions just go to places and open them.
