pc stuck in a start up loop?

hi my acer aspire one, is stuck in a start up loop, it wont start in safe mode or in any other mode, the xp start up window comes up, then it goes into check disk, then back to xp window, i have tryed f2 and f12, but no luck, any advice on this problem welcome,, ranger

Looks like you screwed up your mbr, google how to repair your master boot record for xp, I only know how to do it on 7, but you will need a xp disk.

Is it like that from cold? If it's an older system (running XP usually dates a system, unless you're a mobile phone tech) you might want to open the case & clean the heatsink. Repasting might also help a little.

But if the MBR fix fails, you could be staring down the barrel of a fresh install.

hi thanks for your answer, can you tell me if i can do a fresh install, i have a vista install cd, and a 16GB stick, as the acer dont have a cd drive, can i load the cd on to the stick and then on to the pc, ? and try run it on startup. thanks again, ranger.

Yes you can, use a program such as ImgBurn to copy the disc.

All you need is a method into dos, however if you got into repair console from a windows xp cd.

Type chkdsk /r this will scan the hdd for errors and more than likely bring you out the loop
