old laptop wont connect to wireless network

    hi
ive just bought an old toshiba laptop on windows xp.
it picks my wireless network that i have other pc's connected to but when i enter network key it says,

network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bit depending on your network config.

    any ideas?

Have the same problem with old wireless dongle, unable to use wep2 security, maybe the same with your wireless card? Is the router wireless G or N, maybe the card is wireless B if really old. Some routers configured to go down to B. You might be able to use a newer wireless dongle. I have one ordered and will update if any success.

you don't need to buy anything just use the diagnostic inbuilt or use recovery discs or get help off us Troubleshoot network connection problems in Windows
