the problem seems to have started when used media centre and xbox.
one thing you dont do if can help it is improper shutdown, can damage important files or even hard drive,

you will have to give a little more information to people on DK.
like operating system laptop using, how far you get into windows before freezing,ie does windows load fully all the time,or does it struggle, how much memory you have,
there are loads of things that can cause a freeze.

      laptop problem

jeez, its a lot to take in that, , im using an acer aspire 5935g, intel core2 duo processor, 3gb memory, 320gb hdd, it starts up normally everything loads, but like i said it just freezes after about 5 mins, its really beginning to pee me off, and sometimes if im using it for about an hour it freezes sporadically(big word that) if theres a way of getting rid of connecting media centre to xbox ill do it, i need my laptop as i cant get out much, only thing i rely on really, thanks again for any help to come.

You still didn't mention what OS your running anyway I have a similar laptop & would guess it's either Vista or Windows 7. Have you tried a system restore? If not then do a restore to a date before your problems started. If you can't do that then I would suggest to just back all your personal files up, take a screenshot of all your installed programs & re install your operating system.

              type 'msconfig' into windows startbar

select startup and take the ticks out of everything apart from files that c:\windows uses apply and restart

let use know the out come of this

hi guys, did a couple of things suggested on here yesterday, typed msconfig in startbar as directed,it seems everything in there says c:/windows, so nothing to untick, also did virus scan and its no change im afraid, one more thing that was suggested left to try, if that doesnt work i dunno wot to do

not everything will say c;\windows dont u have any other programs installed that startup on windows load?

go msconfig again click startup tab press print screen
open paint and paste then upload to here so i can see whats running

also press and hold ctrl , alt , delete and
this will bring up system manager and will show u wat processes are running , how many processes are running and the cpu usage

do u get any lines or screen artifacts before the system freezes?
