    windows error 20007

I very often get the error message that ` windows cannot connect to the internet` and after running the windows diagnostic tool which connects me to the internet it tells me error 20007. This keeps happening and becoming a bit of a bore. Any help would be appreciated.

error 2007 is usually caused by a corrupt registry entry. The best thing you can do, to prevent your PC from getting more error messages or further registry corruption, is to fix this problem immediately, by following the easy instructions below. The potential risk, resulting from not repairing this error, could include system crashes, blue screens.

Download and run this first... CCleaner - Download

Also worth downloading and running... NTRegOpt Freeware download and review - registry compactor from SnapFiles

After you have done those, come back and let us know how you got in...

I see a low SNR in the report but not much else..

WHat are you using a laptop and wifi or a PC and a wired connection etc?

Who is your ISP? what speed is it supposed to be?

Seems to be going the wrong way now as that error was initially indicating a registry error, but I guess you have nothing to loose right now, unless you wish to reload from scratch...

            windows error 20007

            Thanks Caveman,

ISP is avanti communications by satellite (free installation from the Scottish government for out lying communitys) at 1mb speed and my computer is desktop and wired. I must say that ccleaner and the other prog certainly has improved the situation if that is not a coincidence? As you could see by the end bit of my diagnosis report it is still error 20007.

            Thanks, Senga

this is going to be a tricky one. i take it you have not called your ISP for diagnosis as there may be aware of this one on their network... I would ask them about it but you could try another internet browser to see if you still get the same problem..

Download this browser called Firefox (its free) and see how you get on...

Thanks caveman. I shall keep you informed and will contact Avanti to see what they say. I just thought that as lot`s of others had this problem it was my computer at fault. I am going to have to find out about Firefox though as the other half might freak at a completley different screen...I have considered it though as it has some very good write ups and followers, so have to find out if the change is seamless and painless?

Thanks for the help and what a great site.

There's actually a number of reasons why error 2007 might of happened, but of course the most common reason is caused when new programs are installed over all old ones that are not completely uninstalled 100%, causing registry pile ups and of course, getting error messages. Another reason, is damage that's been done by malware programs, attaching themselves to your PC and wrecking havoc, deleting crucial files from your PC.

I have not used it myself but sounds like it may do the trick..

Looks from here like you have a DNS issue. Seems names are not resolving to IP numbers either by timing out or failing to contact proper DNS server.

Do this with a website thats giving you problems. I'll use Microsoft as its the one mentioned in the error report.

If you open command prompt. Type nslookup and grab the ip address of your DNS server for later use. Type www. microsoft. com (remove the spaces :P)

                        Should return something like this.
                        Code:
                        Non-authoritative answer:
                        Name: lb1.www.ms.akadns.ne
                        Addresses: 207.46.192.254
                                  207.46.193.254
                                  65.55.12.249
                        Aliases: www.microsoft.com
                                  toggle.www.ms.akadn
                                  g.www.ms.akadns.net
Take the top IP address and type it into your web surfer app (IE, Firefox, Safari, opera) and see if it connects without issue.

If it returns no Ip address info. Type exit in command prompt to leave nslookup and type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = IP address of DNS server you took from NSlookup before.) and see if that replies. If you get no responce or a slow responce I recomend you contact your ISP and go through it with them.

Looking at Avanti's webby you recieve static IP address information from them. Might be an idea to check that as well, make sure everything is set correctly. Type ipconfig /all in command prompt and check the numbers there.

                          windows error 12007

Thank you for your reply Bobisky. I will work through your suggestions. The problem is still just intermittant (every 4th attempt roughly) and sometimes when it gives the normal windows error about not being able to connect, and I do the diagostic, it tells me it finds no fault, or on other occasions it could be my firewall.........turning the firewall off makes no difference though. I have pinged the DNS server several times but it works every time and I can`t catch it out. Here`s hoping your help will do the trick and I shall keep you informed along with Caveman.

                          Thanks

Try a pathping command instead of ping or tracert. Its the 2 combined and should show you any signal loss.

Type pathping in command prompt. Use it like ping so just go (pathping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX -p YYY) XXX=IP address. YYY=time in 10ths of a second. pathping 127.0.0.1 -p 100 would ping my loopback address for 10 secs.

                              hello Bobski,

Thanks for the info. My connection problem got worse so have spoken to the provider and they say that they will tweak it their side as they have had, or still do, an issue relating to this problem. They seem to so far, accept that the issue is with them and not my computer which is good. My final question to them after this is sorted will be what was the problem exactly as the anwser may be helpful to many others if 12007 error on Google posts is anything to go by, but as you indicated, it seems so far to be DNS related. The chap did "tweak" it when I was on the phone to him and there was an immediate improvement so we shall see. Thanks again and I will give you the results of your last suggestion when I do it.
