laptop loses power when i move it

i'm using toshiba satellite laptop with mains power only as the battery overheated, over the last few days if i move the laptop say a foot or so it switches off and i have to reboot i can only move it very gently and slowly but sometimes it still loses power and sometimes it takes 3-5 clicks of the power button to switch on again is the problem just the power lead needs replacing? i've checked to make sure its plugged into the wall firmly and the connection to the battery charger and the connection to the laptop are all in properly. any ideas?

Could be one of many problems, dodgy power supply, messed up charger port, loose connection inside or just a ~~~~ed up laptop, my money is on power supply. I would replace the whole charger as they usually come in two parts which connect together. Might not be a bad idea to call up a few local computer shops to find out if they have a power supply for your laptop, so you can try before you buy

as shady said, its the dc jack.on the laptop,
the dc jack only has a small tin lip on negative side of jack,
everytime you move laptop, you are bending that lip back into slot on jack, eventualy you wont be able to connect with it at all.
the people i have told, dont move laptop while cable in back,
        but do they listen,NOT.
good for me,as i have replaced the same laptop 4 times with dc jacks, money in my pocket.
i love peeps that do it.

but to replace is murder, its a full laptop strip down, motherboard out.

Always check the power supply first as this is most common culprit. New ones from the bay are relatively cheap. I've had tosh satellite for years and no problems apart from swapping psu.

can i re-fit the battery after it reheated? i've got firefox with windows 7,even when i had the battery fitted i always kept it plugged into the mains as it worked faster that way.

put battery back in,charge it,NOTE battery will get warm while charging, run laptop on battery only, time how long it lasts,to check if battery a gonner.a good battery should last 2-4 hours.the laptop will run brighter on mains.

i've now re-fitted the battery and have it plugged into the mains for the battery to charge its about 80% it says 1hr 53 remaining,i thought when i removed it that it had no charge as i couldnt switch on the laptop with it fitted but no problem today? switched on straight away, as i'm sure you can tell i have very little computer knowledge and i dont understand a lot of the terminology.

wasn't getting any power to the laptop this week so just back from a local computer shop and thankfully it was the power lead not the jack pin.
