    Vista Ultimate-doc&settings-access denied

Yesterday after I transfered a file into MYMusic folder, the folder has now lock up and its showing a shortcut sign instead of the normal forder icon.

When I try to access mymusic it just says mymusic is not accessable, access is denied. its now doing with all my documents & settings folders.

    can anyone help?

have you done a virus scan? Best to run an up to date scan first... otherwise we could get you to alter things when you have no need to etc..

Sounds like the ownership of the folder has been altered, can you boot intop safe mode and check the ownership of the folder

of course it has changed but these things do not happen by themselves do they, we need to establish the cause.. Reseting the ownership is easy enough but if the operating system is infected/compromised it does not matter as somebody else could change the ownership again whenever they feel like it or if its a virus/trojan/malware who knows what else it is doing..

No nige they do not happen them selves but people do mess with setting they know nothing about.
Granted some form of malware could be at cause of this problem but they have done a full system scan with norton and was all clear.
I only suggested to change the ownership of the folder to gain access to the folders in question and see if it happened again.

I would get rid of Norton and use a proper antivirus and antispyware program.

Start with SpyBot Search & Destroy - it's free.

Fixed it in the, I just created another admin account on the system and it seemed to change everything back to normal for all accounts. Then I just deleted the new account and as ie well.

                Thanks to all :-)
