Dell D630 fault

Hi,
just thought I'd get some input on a Dell laptop problem.

I have aquired a second Dell D630. When you turn it on there is just a very faint horizontal line across the screen.
The computore seems to hang.

I swapped the hard drive over into my good D630 and it boots fine.

I also tried an external screen but that makes no difference.

I find the D630 a usful laptop as it has older conections.

Any thoughts?

sounds like the mainboard is failing.. try it just using mains power without a battery installed and see if that helps..
