    Dell Beep Code

    Beep Code
    Possible Problem
One) Possible system board failure ? BIOS ROM checksum failure
    Two) No RAM detected
NOTE: If you installed or replaced the memory module, ensure that the memory module is seated properly.
Three) Possible system board failure ? Chipset error
    Four) RAM read/write failure
    Five) Real Time Clock failure
Six) Video card or chip failure
    Seven) Processor failure
    Eight) Display failure

    Hope This Helps.

Thanks for the info, i tried to check on the dell website to see what bios i have the only info i can get from the website in the drivers and software section and then under bios is
          DELL INSPIRON N5010 SYSTEM BIOS

          RELEASE DATE 10/25/2010
          VERSION A09

I have never updated the bios it has stayed the same since i brought it from
Currys and i brought it just after the above date so it would have the factory set bios?

Other than that i cant access the screen or go and check on the laptop because of the black screen

Also i checked on the website you gave me but i cant seem to figure out which bios it is so i just looked for short 3 beeps and it cale under AMI BIOS beep codes but then again im not 100% if its the bios is ami im only saying that because its the only one with the 3 short beeps which my laptop is making.

Why not take it back to Curry's? Under SOGA, I'm sure when you bought it, you expected it to last longer than 2 years.

because in shop they will defo tell him to piss off.

If you really need to go that route, only customer services will help you. i can gurantee you that.
                    i used to work there.

Umm its the RAM thats your problem by the way..i think

Seen it on that model a few times..
try a static disharge ,, take battery out, make sure AC unplugged . hold power button for 30 secs, and reseat the RAM.

haribo has a good point.there could be a thermo break on the pcb its self.this id how it goes '' clear the cmos'' do all the simple thuings first .i have takin it for granted that you are skilled in pc's ,if your not there's a listed procedure 'IE' process of elimination to follow.i have in past found a few times that a loose screw has caused problems as simple as it being bad earthing & dust build up has caused allot of static .hoover out all ventillation areas & clear the cmos as haribo has stated .good luck & keep it simple

                          IMO

Odds are that it is a Ram problem. Make sure that they are seated corectly and locked, try running with just one stick (try other one also). it's very rare that two will go bad at the same time. If that dosen't help then there are other test you can try.

I didn't see this post so I thought I would mension that with some laptops you must use the right slot when using only one stick.
