    Vaio audio/sound problem

    Hi Guys,
Actually my vaio fell down on floor and since then it lost its sound although when I turn it on the window starting sound could be heard but soon thereafter audio system completely vanishes. I can watch videos but without any sound and can't listen to music either. If any body could give suggestions to fix it I would highly appreciate. Thanks alot!

tricky one, download a new set of drivers first and see if that makes any difference. Then if that does not work you could try doing a system restore to a point before you dropped it.

let us know how you get on.

Try downloading a live CD such as Ubuntu. This should identify your sound chip and if it is intact should produce sound outputs. This would determine whether it is your windows drivers.

I would venture to say they you could have cracked a solder join or two, sounds like you have contact problems with your audio components and your systemboard.

How comfortable are you with a soldering iron? If it was me i would dismantle the laptop and start checking for broken joins by flexing the board..

i can see pictures in my mind of a man in a loincloth desperately twisting circuit boards looking vaguely puzzled.
