PC Starts but .....

I have a sempron 2600,

Fires up fine, can stay in the BIOS for ages - no problems

Put in a windows CD - changed bios to start using cd and surely the windows XP installation starts, but past the first part when it is inspecting the config and should go to the blue dos like screen, it turns black and freezes. Tried numberous CD. DOS progs appear to be fine.

Any Ideas?

Have you done a full format? Does the CD allow you to get that far?

If not, google 'Hirens Boot CD', download that and put that in at boot. This is a boot cd that has loads and loads of apps, including some format programs. Do a full format and try the install again.
