type in the windows start bar 'msconfig'
then select the startup tab and take the tick out of anything u dont wont to load up on computer start up
but leave ticks in any programs that use c:\windows

lets use know if this speeds up

yes, open a browser and start browsing ... sadly that won't work well for you, because by the time browser will load you'll get bored.
disable anything you don't need at startup - msconfig way should do it - as Cod3waX said. also drop any toolbars you have installed - uninstall preferred, but disable should work too.
Hit the Thanks button if I helped you!

        just to clarify

Do you mean from turning on the laptop to going into a browser for internet it takes a minute?

Or from opening the browser to reach the internet takes a minute?

Or possibly do you mean it takes a while for the laptop to get an internet connection after being turned on?

..and to further add to this...was it faster B4 and slower now?...what type/OS and speed of laptop?...also the more icons you have on the desktop, will slow down performance on start up..has this changed recently?
