    Laptop to TV connections

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect my Acer Aspire 5720Z laptop with vista to my Philips 42PFL7862D/10 tv. The laptop has VGA connection and I'm trying to go to the HDMI on the TV. I have cables and adaptors to physically connect the 2 together but I can't get the TV to find any signal from the laptop. Anybody got any ideas?
    Cheers Dave

I was just hoping to plug it in and away I go!

I've set the laptop up vga to vga on my pc monitor and it works without having to do anything else.
When I go to the multiple display settings, when wired up to the tv, it tells me 2 displays must be connected to use this feature.

somewhere inthe the properties for the second display you need to select it as TV, I know on the ATI software you can force detect a TV but i think Acer's have Intel.. Are you able to select an advanced graphics properties? What connection are you using to connect you laptop to your TV?

VGA is analogue. HDMI is pure digital. They won't talk to each other. Looking at the specs for your TV best bet is either Svideo to svideo, if you have svideo out on your laptop or VGA to Compenent lead and plug into the component sockets on your TV. Or lastly you could invest in a VGA to digital converter but that might prove costly.

Edit, VGA to DVI converter here ?100+ eek.
